SDI Names Jack Hartman as President and Chief Operating Officer

Megaproject Infrastructure Veteran Reinforces Complex Delivery Expertise at Mission-Critical Systems Integrator

CHICAGO, IL – June 10, 2016 – Mission-critical systems integrator SDI (SDI Presence LLC) announces that public infrastructure executive Jack Hartman has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of SDI, effective on June 13th.  Hartman, alongside SDI Chief Executive Officer David A. Gupta, will manage the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the firm.

“We are thrilled to announce the addition of Jack Hartman to our executive team.  He brings us valuable experience in high-profile, mission-critical environments and the exceptional technical skillsets that they require. Jack’s proven success and extensive network in large-scale infrastructure program and project management will be very relevant across the firm’s regional market footprint as the technology discipline expands its role in these types of projects,” states Gupta. SDI recently welcomed back Gupta as its CEO, who founded the firm 20 years ago this year. The firm, which has offices in Chicago (HQ), Charleston, SC and Los Angeles, CA, has a client portfolio that includes major government, airport, tolling, commercial banks and healthcare organizations.

Prior to SDI, Hartman held executive leadership positions at international design, consulting, engineering and management services company Arcadis, and program and project management consulting firm The Rise Group, where he led project teams at the City of Chicago’s Department of Water Management, the Chicago Housing Authority, the College of DuPage and the Public Building Commission of Chicago at which he led the deployment of over 9,000 video surveillance cameras across the City.

Hartman previously served as Executive Director of the Illinois Tollway, where he led the $5.3 billion Open Roads for a Faster Future, which included rebuilding/restoring 90% of the Tollway’s 274-mile system, converting all 20 mainline toll plazas to barrier-free Open Road Tolling, and building the $880 million I-355 South Extension from I-55 to I-80. Prior to the Tollway, Mr. Hartman served as Executive Vice President of Construction, Engineering, and Facilities for the Chicago Transit Authority, where he oversaw the $2.5 billion Capital Development Program, including the $482 million rehabilitation of the 100-year-old Douglas (Blue) Line and the $250 million Red Line renovation. At the CTA, Hartman initiated “Project Net,” a web-based project management system for the Capital Development Program which won the 2003 Driehaus Award for Innovation. Hartman implemented ISO 9001 certification of both the Tollway and CTA Capital Improvement Programs.

Preceding his time with the CTA, Hartman managed major terminal and landside facilities projects at both O’Hare International and Midway Airports as Deputy Commissioner of Chicago’s Department of Aviation. He negotiated the outsourced maintenance and management of the $618 million International Terminal, the $125 million Airport Transit System and the 21,000-space parking operation at O’Hare and Midway. He coordinated the final construction and opening of both O’Hare’s new International Terminal and the Airport Transit System. As Project Manager for the Midway Terminal Project, he directed the design and negotiated the agreement with Southwest Airlines to build the $722 million replacement terminal. He also restructured O’Hare and Midway Airports concessions program to include street pricing and national branding, adding 51 new units and initiating a $50 million construction program.

Remarking on his new role, Hartman stated, “I have followed the SDI story over the past two decades, and have personally observed the positive impact that the firm has on its clients’ operations. The firm offers a powerful combination of solid corporate leadership and teams of extremely talented and dedicated IT, security, and business professionals. I am pleased to have this opportunity to build upon the long history of mission-critical technology systems delivery here at SDI. ”

Mr. Hartman is a graduate of the Loyola University of Chicago where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree, a Master of Business Administration degree and a Juris Doctor. Mr. Hartman is an adjunct professor at The Northwestern University McCormick School of Engineering teaching program management. He was named 2005 Citizen of the Year by the City Club of Chicago. He serves on the boards of the Economic Club of Chicago, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, After School Matters, Catholic Charities, Chicago Summer Business Institute, and is the Chairman of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago Educational Foundation.
