Last week, SDI was in attendance at AAAE’s Emergency Management Conference in LA. Hosted by the Los Angles World Airports, the conference focused on all types of airport emergencies, including aircraft accidents, natural disasters, power failures, terrorist acts, as well as coordinated response efforts as identified by the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP), National Incident Management System (NIMS), and other federal regulations.
The agenda was packed with many great presentations, keynote speakers, and tours. SDI’s very own Don Zoufal participated in a tour that gave a behind the scenes look at the City of Los Angeles’ Emergency Operations Center. The LA EOC facility is state-of-the-art in terms of design, systems, and management. The LA EOC is designed on a functional basis to provide operational and strategic support to incident command in the field, in response to major events and incidents in the city of LA. After the LA EOC tour, there were opportunities to take a look at the LAFD and LAPD facilities. The picture below (will be blurred) is of the Real Time Analysis and Crime Response center (RACR) at LAPD. RACR operates 24×7 and provides information to command staff to direct police response to developing incidents.
With all the presentations, speakers, and the behind-the-scenes tours, SDI had a great experience at the 2014 AAAE Emergency Management Conference. A lot of new information was presented, which will help improve airport emergency response for all of SDI’s airport clients. The SDI Team is looking forward to next year’s AAAE emergency management conference.
