This municipal electric utility client powers some of the world’s largest high-tech, bio-tech, and info-tech companies in the United States. As the City looks toward the future, they are preparing for a new world in which electric utilities are at the center of environmental and energy issues and innovations, including plug-in electric vehicles that talk to the grid, a proliferation of customer-based onsite generation, and appliances that monitor their own electric usage to maximize cost efficiency. The power company sought a trusted advisor to assist with the strategy, procurement, implementation and change management aspects of their evolving enterprise IT portfolio.
Services Delivery
SDI has supported the electric utility on numerous projects, including:
- Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Utility Communications Infrastructure (UCI), Meter Data Management System (MDMS) Solution Procurement – SDI facilitated procurement effort to select AMI/UCI/MDMS solution vendors. Our services included requirements analysis, RFP development, proposal evaluation criteria development, proposal evaluation consultation, and negotiation support.
- AMI/UCI/MDMS Implementation – SDI provided project management and project implementation services to support the AMI, UCI, and MDMS implementations.
- Utility Management Information System (UMIS) Assessment and Project Portfolio – SDI completed a comprehensive assessment of the utility billing system and associated technologies to identify issues and provide recommendations. The project included developing a prioritized project portfolio that included more than 50 projects and initiatives. SDI also implemented a formal stakeholder governance structure and associated processes.
- UMIS Project Management Office (PMO) – SDI worked with the City to implement a technology governance structure, PMO processes and tools, and ongoing management of the PMO. In addition to managing the PMO, SDI provided project management and implementation support to ensure project success. Projects implemented include Automated Call Distribution (ACD) and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) replacement, bill redesign, print and mail solution, customer service initiatives, utility billing system upgrades and enhancements, online bill presentment and payment, data warehouse upgrades and enhancements, business process re-engineering, infrastructure upgrades, remittance processing outsourcing, and more.
SDI Presence provided additional consulting services that included project management, change management, process analysis, requirements determination, workshop facilitation, system and business analysis, and documentation.
