For more than 25 years, SDI has delivered mission-critical systems and technology services to some of our nation’s most complex and public-facing organizations and government entities.
In 1989, Environmental Systems Design, Inc. (ESD), a premier engineering firm, developed an in-house support staff to design and manage information technology solutions for its engineering disciplines. In subsequent years, the information services division was sought after to provide stand-alone technology services to local governments, utility clients, and businesses in the real estate, healthcare, and finance industries. On November 22, 1996, the information services division emerged from the parent company as SDI (System Development.Integration, LLC) with a mission focused exclusively on providing superior information technology solutions and advisory services.
Over the next decades, the firm gained business in its IT systems work in government-run systems, like transportation and public safety, as well as utilities and commercial buildings. Today, SDI is privately held and has been renamed SDI Presence LLC to reflect its commitment to being present for its clients, team, and community. The firm has honed its specialization in legacy IT application and infrastructure modernization, assisting its customers in their digital transformation with hybrid multicloud services, ITSM platform implementations (including ServiceNow), and comprehensive managed services programming. SDI also has compiled exceptional expertise in enterprise application systems, including Customer Information/Billing, Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), and Workforce Management systems.
In October 2017, SDI acquired NexLevel Information Technology, Inc. (NexLevel), a West Coast IT management consultancy with a project resume of over 200 West Coast government agencies and special districts. The acquisition extended SDI’s local delivery capability throughout California, adding senior consultants with municipal/financial leadership in local government and utilities. SDI’s growing West Coast team offers a specialization in ERP system selection/procurement and project management oversight, land management system implementations, and IT assessments and strategic plans – having delivered over 100 IT assessments/strategic plans throughout West Coast. In late 2021, SDI acquired California-based Scientia Consulting Group, furthering its presence on the West Coast and building out its cloud and managed services offerings.
As of 2021, the firm scored a 99% customer satisfaction rating and 99 Net Promoter Score (NPS) across its customer portfolio. The firm also continues its long-standing commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), achieving $21M in corporate spend with diverse partners in 2021. SDI has committed to a minimum of $100M cumulative spend with our diverse partner firms between 2022 – 2026.
Also in 2021, the firm secured a minority investment from Abry Partners, a Boston-based sector-focused private equity firm. The investment will fund the firm’s continued growth in government, utility, and private sector technology markets through acquisitions and organic expansion of its footprint nationally.
As of 2022, SDI has over 300 employees across the United States, with an additional 100+ affiliated employees through M/W/V/DBE business partnerships. Still headquartered in Chicago, the firm has offices in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Anaheim, Atlanta and Dallas-Fort Worth.
