Challenge
A large community college district in Southern California sought to modernize its IT environment and align technology resources with institutional goals. The district needed a clear understanding of the current state of IT infrastructure, staffing capabilities, and service delivery effectiveness to inform a multi-year strategic roadmap.
Key challenges included identifying gaps in IT skills and resources, evaluating the effectiveness of existing applications and services, and creating a plan that would guide technology investments and projects over the next five years while supporting departmental and organizational objectives.
Solution
To address these challenges, a comprehensive IT assessment and five-year Information Technology Strategic Plan (ITSP) were developed. The approach included reviewing existing IT documentation, conducting interviews with IT staff and key stakeholders, and performing a skills and gap analysis of IT resources.
The assessment identified opportunities to improve service delivery, optimize application use, and align IT investments with district priorities. Based on these insights, a strategic plan was created outlining recommended projects, implementation priorities, cost estimates, and strategies to incorporate initiatives into the annual budget process. Recommendations also included adoption of emerging technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of IT services.
